The Exam
What is the BGCSE?
The Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) is the national qualification examined at the end of Grade 12 by the Bahamas Ministry of Education. It is the primary credential recognised by universities in The Bahamas, the United States, the United Kingdom, and across the Caribbean for undergraduate admission.
The BGCSE is modelled on the Cambridge IGCSE framework and covers a wide range of academic subjects. Students typically sit 7–9 subjects, with most universities requiring passes in at least five, including Mathematics and English Language.
The exam consists of two main papers per subject: Paper 1 (multiple choice, 40% of the total grade) and Paper 2 (structured questions or essays, 60%). In Sciences, Paper 3 covers practical-style questions. Results are graded A* through G, with A* being the highest.

University note: UB (University of The Bahamas), UWI, and most US/UK universities require a minimum of 5 BGCSE passes at Grade C or above, including Mathematics and English Language. Grades D and below typically do not count towards admission requirements.

Study Strategy
How to plan your BGCSE study across two years
With 7–9 subjects and two years of content behind each one, leaving revision to the final term doesn't leave enough time. The most common outcome of late cramming is dropping marks on subjects that were actually manageable, not because the content was too hard, but because there wasn't enough time to cover it properly.
Grade 10: Build the foundation. Use guided lessons to cover the first year of content in each subject. Don't skip topics because they seem easy. The BGCSE has a way of testing Grade 10 content in Paper 2 structured questions. Complete one micro-lesson per subject per day and let spaced repetition do the maintenance work.
Grade 11: Cover the curriculum and find the gaps. By mid-Grade 11, you should have finished guided lessons across all subjects. Switch your focus to topic tests. Your Waypoint Exam Readiness Score will tell you exactly which subjects are below threshold and where your accuracy is weakest.
Final term: Mock exams and targeted revision. In the term before exams, sit a full mock Paper 1 and Paper 2 for each subject under timed conditions. Review only the questions you got wrong. Your Waypoint daily mission will automatically surface those topics each morning.
